Betty Lou Franz
Betty Lou Franz, 72, peacefully went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2018. Her faith in God was her lifelong passion, and her Bible her most prized possession. She prayed daily for her family and friends, played hymns by ear on piano with gusto, and regularly took notes in church. Betty never tired of talking about God’s promises and was eager to encourage those in need.
Betty was born to Henry and Bertha Janzen, the seventh of nine children, in York, NE on January 17, 1946. She grew up on a farm near Lushton, NE and loved to tell stories about the one-room schoolhouse she attended. Betty attended high school in Henderson and earned a bachelor’s degree from Grace University in Omaha.
She was a member of the Christians Women’s Club of Aurora and owned and operated the Classic Victorian Century House Tea Room in Aurora, NE for ten years. She also sold Christian books and gifts as Wisdom’s Shelf. Betty was also a vendor at Village Square in Aurora as well.
Betty loved being part of a large family and was close with her siblings. She married her high school sweetheart, Ardean Lloyd Franz, on July 15, 1967. She raised four children and was devoted to being a nurturing mother and faithful wife. She worked alongside Ardean on the farm and particularly enjoyed driving tractor during harvest. She made countless meals, had a summer garden, and enjoyed canning and preserving.
Betty loved being around people and serving them. She deeply appreciated music and the joy of singing, and was regularly involved in church activities. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at home with her Savior. Her favorite verse was Isaiah 26:3 “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusteth in Thee.”
Betty is survived by her husband, Ardean; her daughter Teresa Mottl with grandchildren LaRae (and Zachery) Wheat, Josie, Camryn and Teghan; her daughter Tamara (and Wilkin) McKean with grandchildren Carson and Jesse; her daughter Amber (and Marc) Boeker with grandchildren Ethan, Nathaniel, Carter, and Aaron; her son Andrae (and Stephanie) Franz with grandchildren Andrew, Katelyn, and Adam; her brother Arvid Janzen; and her sisters Geraldine Peters, Roine Peters, Wanda Goertzen, Marlyce Hiebner, and Donna Yost. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Becky Franz; her grandson, Abel Franz; her brother, Melvin Janzen; her sister, Janice Mendel; and her parents.
