William “Bob” Hicks, age 86, former York, Nebraska resident, died Monday November 20, 2017 at Grand Island, Nebraska.
Bob was born on May 26, 1931 to Robert and Thelma (Young) Hicks in Auburn, Nebraska. In 1938 the family moved to Seward, Nebraska where Bob graduated from Seward High School in 1949. On September 2, 1950 Bob married high school sweetheart Evelyn (Hodde) Hicks. From this union came one son, Bill and daughters Deborah and Denise.
Bob served in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid member of the American Legion, holding multiple local and district offices in the 60's, 70's and 80's. He worked for 40 years as a Line Supervisor for Nebraska Public Power retiring in 1989.
Bob is survived by son Bill Hicks of Lincoln, and daughters Deborah (David) Robotham and Denise (Dennis) Leinen of York; Grandsons, Christopher Prince of Portland, OR, Joshua (Candace) Leinen of Lincoln, Joseph Leinen and Ryan Robotham of York. Great Grandchildren, Tess, Amya, Dre and Alexus Towers all of Lincoln. Great-Great Granddaughter Rylyn Towers of Lincoln. Brothers Eugene Hicks of Seward, Ron (Cinda) Hicks of Lincoln and sister Cheryl (Gary) Busch of Arvada, CO.
He is preceded in death by his parents Robert & Thelma Hicks, nephew Brian Hicks, sister Barb Crook and sister-in-law Phylis Hicks.
Graveside services were held on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Greenwood Cemetery in York. Memorials may be given to the family for later designation.
