Sharon Hiett

Sharon R. Hiett age 74 of York, NE died Thursday, September 28, 2017 in York surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 17, 1943 in Holdrege, NE to Claude E. and Willette (Stoll) Lansden. Sharon grew up in Fairmont where she attended Fairmont High School. She was married to Harold Hiett on December 5, 1961. They were blessed with 6 children. Sharon was baptized at the First Christian Church in York.

Sharon was a busy homemaker while her children were small, but worked and managed the Country Kitchen in York. Later she furthered her education and received her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree from Southeast Community College. She worked at Midwest Covenant Home, York General Hearthstone, and lastly at the Nebraska Women’s Correction Facility until her retirement in June 2007. She loved mountains, quilting, crocheting, slot machines but most of all family holidays, lake weekends, pumpkin patch parties, Easter Piñatas, and monthly birthday parties. Her greatest joy was her family. Any time spent with family was special and her heart was full.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harold Hiett of York, NE; children Kimberly (Kevin) Stephens, Deborah (Michael) Hinz, Christine (Kevin) Cobb all of York, Anthony (Linda) Hiett of Bradshaw, NE, Cynthia (James) Blundell of Benedict, and daughter-in-law Patricia Payton of Superior, NE and her loving sister Janice Thompson of Benedict. Her grandchildren include: Matthew (Joslyn), Joshua, and Sarah Stephens; Lindsay (Gregg) Heiden; Steven and Taylor Hinz; Ashley, Logan, Brianna, and Tory Cobb; Christina (Joey) Nielsen; Hannah and Anthony “T.J.” Hiett; Timothy (Branda) Blundell and Shanon (Devin) Koranda; Zeth (Amanda) Payton; and Thomas Eagle. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Kinsley and Kelan Stephens, Madelyn and Kendall Heiden, Oakley Cobb and Carter Sperling, Adrian and Addyson Nielsen, Makenzie and Easton Koranda, and Haylee, Morgan, Shelby, and Easton Payton. She is also survived by 5 nieces and 3 nephews, along with a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Galen, grandson Curtis Payton, brother Ivan Lansden, step-brothers and sisters, parents-in-law, sisters-in-law Wilma Bachelor and Sharon Hiett, brothers-in-law Gary Hiett and James Thompson.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 am, Monday, October 2, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in York with the Reverend Dr. Mike Eickhoff and Pastor Curtis Holzworth officiating. Burial was held in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
