Ellen Jean Simon, age 85, of Henderson, NE, passed away Friday, December 9, 2016 at Henderson. She was born June 10, 1931 in Gibon, NE to Ernest and Cora (Lange) Frank. Ellen was united in marriage to Dale V. Simon on September 16, 1951 in Norfolk, NE. Their life together led them from Stanton, NE to the Nebraska sandhills and later to the South Dakota plains. After her husbandís death in 1994, she moved to Henderson, NE. She was a faithful christian, wife, mother, writer, teacherís aide, volunteer and friend to many. Ellen was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton, NE.
Survivors include daughters, Barbara (Dale) Reetz of Henderson, NE and Nancy (Duane) Westerbuhr of Helena, MT; sons, Donald Simon of Ottsville, PA and Michael Simon of Henderson; four grandchildren, Jonathan (Kelli) Reetz of Indianola, IA, Christa (Paul) McSorley of Sidney, IA, Heidi (Ryan) Hultin of Helena, MT, and Matt (Liz) Westerbuhr of Dillon, MT; and five great-grandchildren, Danny Reetz and fianceť Morgan Tarpstra of Indianola, IA, Colton Reetz of Indianola, IA, Dakota McSorley of Sidney, IA, Caylee Hultin of Helena, MT, and Blake Westerbuhr of Dillon, MT. Also surviving are two brothers, Roger (Helen) Frank of Norfolk, NE and Donald (Sherry) Frank of Waterloo, IA; three sisters, Lorene Janssen of Garland, NE, Phyllis Vantine of Aloha, OR and Jan (Rich) Hadenfeldt of Dannebrog, NE; two sisters-in-law, Pat Frank of Lincoln, NE and Norma Simon of Stanton, NE; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, David; sister, Marilyn; and brother, Marvin.
A Memorial service was held at 10:30 am Thursday, March 30, 2017 at St Peterís Lutheran Church in Hampton, NE with the Reverend James Gruber officiating. Inurnment took place at 1:30 pm Mountain time Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Alliance Cemetery in Alliance, NE. Memorials may be directed to Orphan Grain Train, Heartland Lutheran High School or Hampton Lutheran Grade School .
