    Alan Howard Anderson, 61, of Lincoln, formerly of York, died Monday, April 19, 2010 at Lincoln. He was born Sept. 20, 1948 at Kearney, to R. Howard and Dorothy L. (Millett) Anderson. Alan graduated from York High School and attended the University of Nebraska for several years before joining the Air Force serving his country in Viet Nam. He retired from the Army National Guard after 20 years of service. He was currently employed by the State of Nebraska Treasurer’s office. Alan was an active member of the First Evangelical Free Church in Lincoln, a member of the Lincoln Stamp Club and enjoyed photography. On June 30, 2001 he was married to Elizabeth Richards at York.

    He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of Lincoln; his daughters, Anne and her husband Mike Taylor of Benedict, Holly and her husband Ted Pool of Hickman and Virginia Anderson of Lincoln; step-daughters include Beverly and John Penrod Sr. of New Hampton, Iowa, and Kimberly and her husband Christopher Buethe of Gretna; step-son, Martin Herron of Norfolk; and six grandchildren.

    Also surviving is his mother, Dorothy Anderson of Lincoln; two brothers, Kenneth and his wife Sharon Anderson of Kearney and Bert and his wife Janet Anderson of Lincoln; and brother-in-law, Mark Nielson of Omaha.

    He was preceded in death by his father; his sister, Jacqueline; and a step-daughter, Christy Herron.

    Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Pat Norris officiating. Burial will be in York’s Greenwood Cemetery with memorials being directed to the University of Nebraska Foundation/Alan Anderson Scholarship Fund or to the Lincoln Stamp Club. Visitation begins after 5 p.m., Wednesday evening, with his family greeting friends from 7–8 p.m., Thursday night, at the mortuary.

    A memorial service in Lincoln will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the First Evangelical Free Church, 84th and Van Dorn.
