Alberta Brackhan
Alberta Lucile Brackhan passed on to her heavenly home on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at York, NE. She was born on October 15, 1928 to Clarence and Emma (Tonniges) Junge at their home east of Benedict, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Thayer, NE with her grandfathers Louis Junge and Albert Tonniges serving as sporsors.
She graduated from Benedict High School in May, 1946 and attended Seward Concordia College the summer of 1946 and earned a teaching certificate. She taught one year at School District No. 49 Country School north of Thayer, NE.
Alberta was married to Ernest G. Brackhan at Zion Lutheran Church in Thayer on April 27, 1947. The Lord blessed them with 65 years and four months of married life and together they raised six children while living in York County the entire time. They found such joy together, fishing, bowling, playing cards, and loving their family. In December, 2006, Alberta moved to the York General Hearthstone where Ernest visited her faithfully every day. Ernest and his family thank the Hearthstone staff for their loving care and concern for nearly six years.
Survivors include four daughters: Donna Galusha of Minden, NE, Lynetta Sue (James) Luethje of York, Joan (Carrington) Smith of York, and Lori (Tom) Hartwig of Hastings, NE; two sons, James Brackhan of Seattle, WA and Scott Brackhan of York; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are four sisters, Donna (Cornie) Sheehan of Seward, NE, Ardith (Jerry) Wolvin, Joyce Waibel, and Connie (Gerald) Saunders all of Lincoln, NE; two brothers, Marlin (Jan) Junge of Strasburg, CO, and Dale (Marlene) Junge of Denver, CO; three sisters-in-law, Alma Hoffman of Lincoln, Thelma Brackhan of Fremont, NE, and Elaine Brackhan of York; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery, south of Waco, NE. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m., both Sunday and Monday at Metz Mortuary, York. The family will greet friends from 6:30-8:30 Monday evening.
