Alene Ediger – Metz Mortuary

    Alene Ediger, age 87, of Henderson, NE, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Henderson.  The oldest of eight children, she was born to Jacob and Marie (Regier) Braun on July 30, 1925 at Henderson.  Alene graduated with the Henderson High School Class of 1943.  Like many girls, she taught school after high school graduation.  She taught for three years and during that time met and married Jacob Ediger on August 4, 1946.  The union was blessed with six children, Vernon, Earl, Ruth, Tim, Jolene, and Lynelle. 

    ​Their first years together were spent farming where Alene worked alongside her husband, planting, irrigating, and harvesting.  In 1973, they started Henderson Metal Products where Alene served as bookkeeper.  She loved her job and worked there through the end of November 2012. 

    She leaves behind to mourn her passing, her children: Vern (Jacque) Ediger, Henderson, and their children Mike (Adria) Ediger, Stephanie (Kevin) Friesen and Karley, Blake, Nick; Ryan (Lelah) Ediger; Earl (Evonne) Ediger, Henderson, and their children Luke (Dawn) Ediger, Haylie, Noah, Brooklyn; Valerie (Andrew) Regier, Mason, Reese, Maddox; Ruth (Homer) Peters, Henderson, and their children Shawn (Sandra) Peters and Cortland; Patrick (Dacia) Peters and their children Hayden and baby Peters; Jo (Mark) Goertzen, Lincoln, NE and their children Conner and Mallory; Tim Ediger, Chandler, AZ; Lynn (Kayvan) Aflatooni, Hays, KS.  Sisters & brothers,  Frieda (Walter) Neufeld, Moundridge, KS, Harlan (Nancy) Braun, Henderson, NE, Esther (Jake) Ediger, Topeka, KS. Lillian Witzel, Phoenix, AZ, Wes Braun, Andover, KS. and Wilma (LeRoy) Balzer, Alamo, CA. and sister in law, Arlene Ediger, Henderson, NE., special nephew Glenn Vassar of York, and many other nieces, nephews and friends.  Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and sister Hannah Morehead.

    Interment will be at 10:15 am Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the MB Cemetery in Henderson.  Memorial services will follow at 11:00 am at the Bethesda Mennonite Church Henderson with the Reverend Jim Voth officiating.  Visitation will be 4-9 pm Tuesday at Metz Mortuary, Henderson.  The family will be present to greet friends 6-8 pm that evening.  Memorials may be directed to the Bethesda Radio Fund or Henderson Health Care Services.
