Arvid Janzen – Metz Mortuary

    Arvid J. Janzen, age 87, of Henderson, NE, died Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Henderson.  He was born October 4, 1933, in rural Lushton, NE to Henry J. and Bertha (Kroeker) Janzen.  Arvid was a lifetime Henderson area farmer, rancher, and cattle feeder.  On December 27, 1954, he was united in marriage to Darlene Ott, his high school sweetheart, at Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson.  Three children were born to this union.

    ​Arvid’s faith in Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior was the guiding principle in his life.  He served as a deacon and in many other capacities at Bethesda Mennonite Church.  He served on the Henderson Hospital Board and Foundation, Henderson Telephone Board and belonged to the Nebraska Cattlemen.  He served as a 4H Leader, and enjoyed raising horses. In 2020, Arvid won the State Hand Cornhusking Competition in his age group.  Most of all he was devoted to his family and loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

    He is survived by his wife, Darlene, daughter Marilyn (Jay) Kroeker, sons Alan (Kimberly) Janzen and Brian (Jerrilyn) Janzen all of Henderson. He is also survived by his granddaughters Carly (Grant) Hiebner of Grand Island, Christianne Kroeker of Lincoln, Ashton (Cody) Brown of Henderson, Miranda (Jason) Wong of London, England, Katelyn (Jaden) Regier, Grace Janzen both of Omaha, Cortney (Rory) van den Berg and Taylor (Chase) Chrisman, both of Henderson. His great-grandchildren include: Caden, Emma and Olivia Hiebner, Thea Brown, Annistyn van den Berg, and Rhett, Stella, and Maylee Chrisman.

    Arvid is also survived by his siblings Geraldine (Leroy) Peters, Roine (Harlan) Peters, Marlyce Hiebner, Wanda (Don) Goertzen, and Donna (James) Buller; sisters-in-law Sheila Goering and Marlene Ott; brothers-in-law Don Mendel and Ardean Franz; and long-time friend LaRue Goossen. 

    He is preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law Henry and Helena Ott, brother Melvin Janzen, sisters Janice Mendel, and Betty Franz; brothers-in-law Dale Friesen, Robert Yost, Ronald Hiebner and Walter Ott.

    Graveside services are scheduled for 9:45 a.m., Friday, August 27, 2021, at the Bethesda Mennonite Cemetery north east of Henderson.  Memorial services to follow at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson at 10:30 a.m., with the Reverend Seth Miller officiating. 

    Visitation will be from 1:00 -9:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 26, 2021, with his family greeting friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. that same evening at the mortuary in Henderson. Memorials may be directed to Bethesda Mennonite Church or to Henderson Health Care.
