    Burdette LaVern (Bert) Bauers, age 86 of York, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at York. He was born at Murdock, NE on January 14, 1918 to Fred and Nora (Wilkens) Bauers. He was a graduate of the Tecumseh High School. Bert married Gwendolyn Curtis at Glenwood, IA on August 3, 1940 and they would have celebrated their 64th anniversary this August. He was an army veteran of WWII serving on Okinawa. Bert worked at Safeway, Toms Produce, Dresden Wholesale and the York Post Office. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks, Eagles and the First Christian Church.

    He is survived by his wife Gwen of York, sons; Richard (Gladys) of Ridgecrest, CA, LaVern (Shirley) of Plano, TX, Dennis (Helen) of York, Lee (Diane) Delhi, IA and David (Lucinda) of Grand Island; his daughter JoAnn (Mike) Parrott of Lincoln; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Al of Beatrice, NE, Duane of Hooper, NE and Kay ( Ruby) of Bremerton, WA. Preceding him in death were his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

    ​Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 23, 2004 at 10:00 am at the First Christian Church on north Delaware Ave. with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Visitation will begin Thursday noon at Metz with family greeting family and close friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at Metz. Casket will be closed at the church. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at York. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church.
