Dallas Wachter

Dallas Wachter, age 84, of York NE, went to be with his Savior on Sunday, November 23, 2025. He was born on November 12, 1941, in Hoskins, NE to LeRoy and Emma (Klentz) Wachter. He was raised and grew up on the family farm in Hoskins, NE where he spent his time horseback riding, hunting, fishing, and all things outdoors. According to Dallas in his later years, he said he “forgot more about hunting than any of you will ever know”…which was potentially true given his childhood pastimes. In his early 20’s, while riding around town with friends, he met a young lady studying in her car, who turned out to be the love of his life. On October 27, 1968, he married Marlene “Micki” Freudenburg in Norfolk, NE. They were married for 56 years.

Dallas retired from NPPD in York after a 35-year career as a fleet mechanic and a truck driver. Not just his career, Dallas loved working on cars, attending car shows, and was a member of the SSR Car Club. His cars were his passion; there was not a car they owned which was not immaculately maintained.

During his retirement years, Dallas spent time traveling the world with Micki, particularly enjoying the Panama Canal, Alaska, Germany, and many other locations. They also loved visiting their children in IA and CO, attending grandchildren’s activities, frequenting car shows, and finding favorite lunch spots across NE.

Dallas was baptized in the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church on December 7, 1941. He remained a devout Lutheran throughout his life, instilling commitment to faith to his family. Dallas and Micki were longtime members for Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York.

Dallas is survived by his son Darin (Donna) Wachter of Longmont, CO, and his daughter Brandi (James) Bishop of Akron, IA. His grandchildren include Danielle Wachter, Colorado Springs, CO, Jake Wachter, Longmont, CO, and Zakary Wachter of Colorado Springs, CO. Kammi (Cody) Otto of LaMars, IA, and Dustin Bishop of San Diego, CA. Also surviving is his brother Dennis (Carolyn) Wachter of Smyrna, TN, and Diane (Bob) Brand of Ridgeway, CO, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Dallas is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Marlene “Micki” Wachter, his parents, and infant sister, Marlis.

Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Inurnment will be in York’s Greenwood Cemetery following services. No viewing, as Dallas chose cremation, but there will be a book signing from 1-8 pm Friday, December 19, with his family greeting friends from 6-7:30 pm that same evening, all at Metz Mortuary in York. Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
