Dan A. Hildebrand

Dan A. Hildebrand, age 71 of York, Nebraska, died on Sunday, April 28, 2024 in Osceola, Nebraska.  He was born on May 23, 1952 to Miles Hildebrand and Mildred (Peg) Kaliff in York, Nebraska.  On August 16, 1987 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Barbara Jo Birt in York, Nebraska.

Dan attended York High School and received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and his Doctor of Philosophy from Hill University.  Dan was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in York, where he served numerous terms on the Session and was an Elder.  He was a past National President of the Acacia Fraternity.  He was an avid reader, loved British television, and loved the Golden Girls.  He enjoyed genealogy and was an avid collector of literally everything. Dan could tell you anything you ever needed to know about well…everything…just ask anyone who tried to play him in a round of trivial pursuit. If you ever were in a pinch or needed to “phone a friend” to answer a question—Dan Hildebrand was your guy—just don’t ask him what he had for lunch the day before because that was definitely forgotten already. He was a gentle guy who adored his family. Even when he couldn’t physically be at things—he made it a priority to do as much as he could to be involved. His grandkids were his pride and joy—and if you knew Dan, you already knew that.

Let to cherish his memories are his son, Alex Hildebrand (Holly Bower), daughter (favorite child), Betsy (Derrick) Forbis, grandchildren, River and Austen Forbis, all of York.  He is also survived by two brothers, John (Ginny) Hildebrand of Mesa, Arizona, Miles Jr. (Chris) Hildebrand of San Diego, California, and numerous nieces, nephews, and lots of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, mother in-law, father in-law, and his wife.

You are so loved, Dad! Miss you already—xoxo

Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 2, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church in York, with the Reverends Dr. Ron Wakeman and Raleigh White officiating.  Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.  Dan was cremated so there is no viewing or visitation.  Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
