Deanna Marie (Wusk) Warnken

    Deanna Marie (Wusk) Warnken passed away peacefully and entered her heavenly garden on April 3, 2024, in Homosassa, Florida at the age of 85. She was born on June 6, 1938, to Walter E. and Faye M. (Rap) Wusk in Adams, Nebraska. She graduated from Adams High School in 1956.

    After graduation, Deanna attended Teachers College and taught country school until 1961. She caught the eye of Merlin “Pete” Warnken and the two were married on June 3, 1958, at the American Lutheran Church in Adams. To this union their first child was born, Shari Dawn in 1960, followed by Randal Scott in 1967.

    In 1965, they moved to York, Nebraska where they made their permanent home. Deanna worked at York Public Schools in various positions until her retirement. Deanna was a do-er. If you wanted something done everyone knew she would take care of it!

    She had active roles in her church serving on various committees, she was a loving mother and always had your back. Deanna was also blessed with a green thumb and always knew the tricks for growing better vegetables and bigger flowers. Most will fondly remember her beautiful smile and her delicious pies!

    Deanna is survived by her daughter Shari (Steve) Wilkins, sister Christy (Wusk) Voboril, sisters-in-law Phyllis (Howard) Koontz and Bonnie Warnken, nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and great-granddaughters, cousins, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Randy, sister Bonnie (Wusk) Harpster, brothers-in-law Don Voboril and Duane Warnken.

    Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in York, NE with inurnment following at Greenwood Cemetery in York. Deanna has been cremated. No viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Greenwood Cemetery.
