Dona M. Kaliff

Dona May Kaliff, sadly passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at home. Dona was born on February 16, 1935, to Dorthy M. (Ritter) and Don Jackson. To this union they added Bob, Gene and Jimmy, and a sister Bonnie. Dona was a big lover of animals, including her horse Skeeter, that was given to her at a young age when she lived at Mother Jewel’s Home, plus another one later. She always said she was going to ride again, but sadly it never happened. Dona attended York Public Schools and graduated from York High in 1954.

She was united in marriage to James Roger Kaliff on July 18, 1954 and they made their home in rural York County. To this union came a daughter Tammi, son Mike, and son Rex.

Dona was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. Dona had worked as a secretary at the York County Courthouse. She spent time doing pottery and painting, with Osker and Nettie Wood’s store. She enjoyed working with crafts and flowers, which led to her building her Wedding business out of their home, which kept her busy helping young brides make their special day beautiful. She worked at Country Gardens and the Flower Box for quite a few years. She also belonged to the Mother Singers Choir Group and helped with the Election Board; she loved being around people.

She helped with the senior citizens “Sunshine Social” every year in McCool Jct. NE. Everyone enjoyed all the neat decoration ideas each year. She was also always busy with keeping up with 4-H projects, anywhere between sewing and horses for many years. She loved being blessed with grandchildren and also great grandchildren who called her Grandma GG. They meant the world to her. She will truly be missed for her beautiful smile and big heart that we all knew and loved.

She spent many years keeping up with the guys in the fields with either supplying food or moving them from field to field.  Family and home were very much important to her.

She is survived by her husband James Kaliff of York, daughter Tammi (Brian) Gerken of Taylor, NE, and son Rex Kaliff of York, sister Bonnie Madison of Blue Hill, Missouri, grandchildren Holly Thoman of Dwight, NE, Beau (Cassandra) Gerken of Wheatland, WY, Damon (Madison) Kaliff of York, and Vance Kaliff of York, great grandchildren Bryce Thoman of Burwell, NE, Alicia Thoman of York, Jayden Sweeney of Dwight, NE, Aunnaleia Spieker of Wheatland, WY, Mehki Gerken of Wheatland, WY, and Daegan Gerken of Wheatland, WY.

She was preceded in death by her parents Don and Dorthy Jackson, father and mother-in-law Frank and Ruby Kaliff, and the late Ruth Kaliff, son Michael James Kaliff, brothers Bob Jackson, Gene Jackson, and Jimmy Jackson, brother and sister-in-law Charles and Janet Kaliff.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Friday, May 3, 2024 at First Lutheran Church in McCool Jct, NE. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in York. Visitation will be held from 1-8 pm on Thursday with family greeting friends from 6-7:30 pm at Metz Mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church.
