Donald Dean Willis

    Donald Dean Willis, 89, of York, NE, passed away in York on April 23, 2024. He was born August 17, 1934 at York Hospital to David and Ida (Sommerfeld) Willis of Bradshaw, Nebraska, the oldest to his twin brother, David.

    Don graduated from Bradshaw High School in 1952. Following high school, he worked at ES Clarke Lumberyard in York. He then served in the US Army from 1958 to 1960. After his service to our country, he returned to ES Clarke and worked for many years at Champion Home Builders in York, retiring in 1999.

    Don was a member of the Bradshaw United Methodist Church. He was a member of the York Elks Lodge for over 60 years. His dedication was evident in his involvement in the annal Elks Hoop Shoot and Christmas Charities, where he selflessly served the community. Don also enjoyed being outdoors, traveling to Colorado yearly, and playing golf.

    Don is survived by his twin brother David (Jane) Willis of York, niece Lisa (Todd) Ellis, their daughter Madison, her fiancé Oliver Woodard, all of Omaha, and numerous lifelong friends at the Elks Club.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret.

    Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the Bradshaw United Methodist Church in Bradshaw, NE with the Reverend Mary Scott officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow at Plainfield Cemetery, west of Bradshaw. Don has chosen to be cremated. There is no viewing, but there will be a visitation and signing of his book from 1-8 pm on Tuesday, with the family greeting friends from 6-7:30 pm at Metz Mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
