Donald “Don” Beattie, age 80 of Papillion, NE, died Monday, May 25, 2026 in Papillion. He was born on August 10, 1945 to Catherine Schroeder in Wayne, NE. He was then adopted by Harold and Esther Beattie of York. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Staehr on September 2, 1967 in Lincoln, NE.
Don graduated from high school in 1963 and went on to earn his degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1967. He proudly served in the United States Army before later retiring from the United States Postal Service after many years of dedicated service. Don enjoyed fishing, tinkering, and fixing just about anything that needed attention. More than anything, he loved visiting with people and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, he truly never met a stranger. His kindness, steady presence, and friendly conversations will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Beattie of Papillion, children Rebecca Beattie of Papillion, Sarah (Steven) Heinemann of Winside, NE, David (Michele) Beattie of Fremont, NE, grandchildren Adam Heinemann of Winside, Landon Beattie of Fremont, sister Mary Koch of Columbus, NE, sister Kay Breitkreutz of Wisner, NE, nieces, nephews, many friends, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private family graveside service will be held in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Open Door Mission in Omaha.
