Duane was a long-time farmer and carpenter. He had also worked at York Packing Plant and delivered newspapers for York News-Times. Duane loved the McCool community and was active with the McCool Fire Department, McCool village board, and McCool Community Club. He was also a member of the Ronald Porter Post 341 American Legion, Woodmen of America, and had been a leader for Boy Scouts and 4-H. Duane was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in McCool, where he had served on the church council and was a youth group leader.
You would often see Duane driving around town on his golf cart and making sure to stop and visit with whomever he could. When sitting in his chair on the front lawn you could always count on a friendly wave and smile as you passed by. Duane enjoyed gardening and was constantly seen in his flower gardens. Bird watching was also a favorite as well. During the Christmas holiday, he put together an amazing display of 15,000 lights and decorations that people from miles around would come to see. Most of all, Duane loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
