Dwight Heng

    Dwight L. Heng, age 88, of York, NE passed away on March 16, 2024 at Cedarhurst Senior Living in LaVista, NE.

    Dwight was born on January 30, 1936, to John and Coletta (Kreifels) Heng in rural Otoe County, NE.  Growing up on the farm, he attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1954.

    Dwight served in the U.S. Army as a company clerk and in the reserves after returning home. He graduated in three years from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1962 with a degree in agriculture.  Dwight taught vocational ag for two years before beginning his long career in farm management.

    On August 4, 1962, he was united in marriage to Carol (Hines) at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Omaha, NE. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in York.  He was a member of the York Elk’s Lodge.  Dwight was a man of faith, family and service to others. He was a blood donor, church volunteer, an avid bridge player and gardener.

    Dwight is survived by son Allan (Teresa) Heng of York, daughters Sandy Heng of Gretna, Linda Rice of Murray and Patty (Steve) Worden of Gretna, eight grandchildren, sister Eileen (Harold) LeGrande and brother-in-law Deroy Harshman.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol, son-in-law Michael Rice, sisters Ruth (Robert) Burr, Leta Harshman, Dorothy (Tom) Funke, brothers Allan Heng, and Edwin (Cyndy) Heng.

    A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am Monday, April 8, 2024 at St Joseph Catholic Church in York with the Reverend Father John Sullivan officiating. Inurnment will follow in St Joseph Cemetery southeast of York. Dwight has been cremated, so there will be no viewing however, his family will greet friends and neighbors from 4-6:00 pm Sunday to be followed by a Rosary service at 6:00 pm all at the mortuary in York. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph School or Blue Valley Community Action in York.
