Edith Kroeker
Edith June (Peters) Kroeker, 85, of Henderson passed away Nov. 15, 2017 in Henderson.
Edith was born, with twin sister Ardith, in rural Hamilton County to Dietrich W. and Margaret (Siebert) Peters on Sept. 9, 1932. She was baptized by the Reverend Arnold Nickel and became a member of Bethesda Mennonite Church on May 28, 1950.
She graduated from Henderson High School in 1950 and went on to graduate as a registered nurse from the Bethel Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Newton, Kan. in 1954. Her entire nursing career – 1954 to 1993 – was spent at Henderson Health Care Services. She began working at the hospital and later at the medical clinic and care center.
Edith was married to Robert Kroeker by the Reverend Arnold Nickel on June 5, 1955 at Bethesda Mennonite Church. They were married for 38 years and had three children: Stephanie, Kathryn and Stephen. The family often camped and enjoyed traveling to the mountains. Edith also enjoyed sewing and knitting.
Edith is survived by a brother, Kenneth Peters of Omaha; a sister-in-law, Effie Kroeker of Henderson; her children, daughters, Stephanie Kroeker of Beatrice and Kathryn (Kurt) Goertzen of Henderson and a son, Stephen (Jodilynn) Kroeker of Peyton, Colo.; three grandchildren, Kelsey (Michael) Bergen of Aurora, Kellen Goertzen of Wichita, Kan. and Katelynn Kroeker of Peyton, Colo.; twin great-grandsons, Jax and Jase Bergen of Aurora as well as nieces, nephews and friends.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Ardith Regier; brother, Gerald Peters; brothers-in-law, Richard Regier, Herbert Kroeker, James Kroeker and Aaron Wall; sisters-in-law, Alma Wall, Alice Kroeker and Betty Scott; niece, Diane Young and nephews, Randy Regier, Jeffrey Peters and James Peters.
Graveside services will be held at 1:15 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church Cemetery north of Henderson. Memorial services will follow at 2 p.m. at Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with Pastor Jim Voth officiating. Visitation will begin Sunday from 5 – 9 p.m., and continue all day Monday with her family greeting friends Monday evening from 7 – 8 p.m., at the mortuary in Henderson. Memorials may be directed to the Bethesda Mennonite Church Technology Fund or the Henderson Community Foundation Grant Program.
