Edith Mary Bristol – Metz Mortuary

Edith Mary Opitz Bristol, age 99, former longtime York resident, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 in Fairmont, NE.  She was born September 12, 1913 in York, NE to Clyde and Ruth (Lang) Ronne.  Edith graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and received her teaching degree.  She taught in the York and Waco area.  She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in York, Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, and a lifetime member of the PTA.   Edith was married to Otto L. Opitz on January 31, 1936 at Lushton, NE.  She was later married to Curtis Bristol on December 22, 1979 at York, NE.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Karen (Gary) Helmer of Arthur, NE and Barbara (Anthony) Kopec of Eatonville, WA; son-in-law, Jim Lundy of York; step-son, Gale (Sharon) Bristol of York; step-daughter-in-law, Mary Bristol of Anchorage, AL; brother Blaine (Jane) Ronne of Torrington, WY.  Also surviving are grandchildren; step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughter Janice Lundy, brother, Raymond Ronne, and step-son, David Bristol.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2013 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in York.  Interment will be in York’s Greenwood Cemetery.   Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m., Tuesday and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.   The family will be present to greet friends Wednesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m.  Memorials may be directed to the Fairview Manor, Fairmont, NE.
