Elizabeth Friesen – Metz Mortuary

    Elizabeth A. Friesen
Elizabeth Ann (Rempel) Friesen, 86, of Lincoln, formerly of Henderson/Aurora, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017 at Lincoln.

She was born Jan. 2, 1931, to Gerhard T. and Olga (Regier) Rempel.

After graduation from Henderson High School in 1948, Elizabeth married Levi H. Friesen on Aug. 6, 1948. They farmed together for nearly 50 years and were married 61 years. They had four children: Ken, Ruth, Tim and Lee.

The most important thing in her life was her realization of her personal need of a Savior. As a young girl, she was helping clean house at her aunt’s house and listening to Back to the Bible radio program. In the discussion that followed, she asked Christ to be her personal Savior.

Elizabeth practiced a life of serving others.  She enjoyed baking, cooking and expressed hospitality to all.  She loved her family and gave selflessly.  She loved seeing the grandchildren sit around the kitchen table eating fresh baked zwieback and cookies.  She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, and quilting baby blankets for current and future great-grandbabies.

One of her  favorite pastimes during her later years was putting together puzzles.  She loved having anyone who stopped to see her become involved in her hobby. Elizabeth continued spending time in prayer for her family and those she met.  She enjoyed reading the Bible and would smile as she would say, even in her difficulties, “This is the Day the Lord has made.  I will rejoice and be glad in it.”  Mom treasured the friends she met on her life journey.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ken and wife, Amy Friesen of Grand Island; Ruth and husband, Dale Strasser of Freeman, S.D.; Tim and wife, Debbie Friesen of Bryant, Ark. and Lee and wife, Valerie Friesen of Lincoln. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  Elizabeth leaves behind a brother, Walt Rempel (Anna); sister, Esther Wall and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Levi; great-granddaughter, Lucy Friesen; parents and brother, John Rempel.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Aurora Cemetery, Aurora. Memorial services will follow at 2 p.m., at Stockham Community Church, Stockham. The Rev. Paul Nauman will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m., Friday evening, with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m., that evening at Metz Mortuary in Henderson. Memorials may be directed to the Stockham Community Church.
