    Ellen Jean Simon, 85, of Henderson, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2016 at Henderson.

    She was born June 10, 1931 in Gibbon to Ernest and Cora (Lange) Frank.

    Ellen was united in marriage to Dale V. Simon on Sept. 16, 1951 in Norfolk. Their life together led them from Stanton to the Nebraska Sandhills  and later to the South Dakota plains. After her husband’s death in 1994, she moved to Henderson. She was a faithful Christian, wife, mother, writer, teacher’s aide, volunteer and friend to many. Ellen was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton.

    Survivors include daughters, Barbara (Dale) Reetz of Henderson and Nancy (Duane) Westerbuhr of Helena, Mont.; sons, Donald Simon of Ottsville, Penn. and Michael Simon of Henderson; four grandchildren, Jonathan (Kelli) Reetz of Indianola, Iowa, Christa (Paul) McSorley of Sidney, Iowa, Heidi (Ryan) Hultin of Helena, Mont., and Matt (Liz) Westerbuhr of Dillon, Mont.; and five great-grandchildren, Danny Reetz and fianceé Morgan Tarpstra of Indianola, Iowa, Colton Reetz of Indianola, Iowa, Dakota McSorley of Sidney, Iowa, Caylee Hultin of Helena, Mont., and Blake Westerbuhr of Dillon, Mont. Also surviving are two brothers, Roger (Helen) Frank of Norfolk  and Donald (Sherry) Frank of Waterloo, Iowa; three sisters, Lorene Janssen of Garland, Phyllis Vantine of Aloha, Ore. and Jan (Rich) Hadenfeldt of Dannebrog; two sisters-in-law, Pat Frank of Lincoln and Norma Simon of Stanton; nieces, nephews and many friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, David; sister, Marilyn and brother, Marvin.

    Ellen has been cremated and there will be no viewing or visitation.

    A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 30, 2017 at St Peter’s Lutheran Church in Hampton, with the Reverend James Gruber officiating. Inurnment will take place 1:30 p.m., Mountaintime, Friday, March 21, 2017 at the Alliance Cemetery in Alliance.

    Memorials may be directed to the Orphan Grain Train, Heartland Lutheran High School or Hampton Lutheran Grade School.​
