    Erma R. Block, age 88, of York, died Saturday, March 26, 2005 at York. She was born November 7, 1916 near Eustis, NE to Leon and Carolina (Miller) Hermann. Erma was a 1934 graduate of Eustis High School and attended Hebron Jr. College, She taught in the Eustis and Bruning areas for 5 years. On February 3, 1940, she was married to Elwin F. Block at Bruning, NE and they moved to York in 1948 where she helped start the first hot lunch program in the York Public Schools and later she had worked as a sales clerk at J. M. McDonalds and the Kings Court. She was a longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the LWML. She had also served as a Scout den mother, Brownie & 4H leader and York Hospital Auxiliary.

    Erma is survived by her husband Elwin of York; son David Block and his wife Carlyn of Omaha; daughter Suzanne Baird and her husband Paul of Paonia, CO; grandchildren, Amy (Block) Littler and husband David, Jeffrey Block and wife Michele, and Chad Block; three great- grandchildren Jacob, Kaden and Abby; two step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her step-brother Clifford Philipi and wife Norine of Bruning and her step-sister Lucille Fitzke and husband Ward of Glenville, NE.

    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Rev. Timothy Marshall officiating. Graveside services will be at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Bruning, NE at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Building Fund or Tabitha Hospice. Visitation will be from 2-9 pm Monday.
