Evelyn Wellman – Metz Mortuary

    Evelyn V. Wellman, 95, of York, passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at York.  

    She was born Dec. 7, 1919 at Tobias, to William and Amanda (Heidemann) Holtmeier. Evelyn was united in marriage to Arlin W. Wellman on April 20, 1947. The union was blessed with two daughters, Janice and Joyce.  

    Following graduation from Tobias High School in 1938, Evelyn worked at Concordia Teacher’s College in Seward, in the dining hall. She also worked at a dry cleaning business in Seward. She was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica but was currently a member of Faith Lutheran Church in York. Evelyn was a member of LWML mission service at Faith and the Senior Center in York.   

    She enjoyed gardening, baking, quilting, visiting with people and taking part in family activities. She truly loved farm life and was happy to pass that love on to her family.

    Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Janice (Mike) Hoffschneider of Beaver Crossing and Joyce (Jerry) Gloystein of Kearney; four grandchildren, Chad (Lana) Hoffschneider of Waco, Jill (Ryan) Koch) of York, Amber (Jake) Messersmith of Kearney, and Aimee (Lucas) Berndt of Kearney; nine great-grandchildren, Cora, Meg and Jake Hoffschneider, Cooper, Chloe, and Claire Koch, Drew Messersmith, and Mallory and William Berndt. Evelyn is also survived by her sister, Doris Pohl of York, and nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters.

    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church in York.  Interment will follow in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at the mortuary with the family greeting friends from 6:30-8 p.m., Sunday.  

    Memorials may be directed to Mission Central, Concordia University or Faith Lutheran Church.​​
