    Frances Claire Huegel 
    Frances Claire Huegel, age 98 of York, NE, died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at York.  She was born February 22, 1916 at Sherwood, ND to Arthur and Annie (Lock) Ritchey.  She graduated from Benedict High School in 1933.  On April 5, 1936 she married Eugene Huegel of York.

    Fran was a long time clerk at Woolworths, Coast-to-Coast and the Green Stamp Store.  While living in North Platte, she participated in the North Platte Canteen. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and UMW.  Her activities and memberships included Girl Scouts, 4-H, Extension Club, FCRV/NCHA, Good Sam Camp Club, Federated Women’s Club and various social/bridge groups.

    Fran always had a welcoming smile and was generous with her time, volunteering often for community and church events.  Her other interests included camping, baking, reading, crosswords, traveling, knitting and card playing.  She will be remembered as the “cake and mint lady” for the many times she provided these items for weddings, graduations, anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions, spanning generations.

    She is survived by four grandchildren, Brenda (Ron) Vogel, Long Beach, CA, Jay Murray, Providence, RI, Sue (Al) Schutte, Elkhorn, NE, Chuck Huegel, Locust, NC; three great-granddaughters, Hailey Vogel, Kaylee and Jaycee Schutte; and daughter-in-law Elizabeth “Bette” Huegel of York.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Richard Huegel, daughter Norma (Jack) Murray, and sisters Maude Todd and Ethel Baker.

    Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m.,  Friday, March 28, 2014 at Metz Chapel in York with the Pastor Art Phillips officiating.  Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.  Cremation/No viewing.  Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
