    Gale L. Tonniges age 79 of York, NE died Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at York.  He was born January 13, 1939 at York to Elmer and Myrtle (Sloan) Tonniges and graduated from York High School. Gale was a 20 year employee of York Packing Company and then was employed at Culligan in York and Columbus for 15 more years where he won the National “Top Salesman” Award and several trips before retiring. Was an active member of the New Heights Assembly of God Church in York and was married to Gloria Stone on October 25, 1957 at York.

    Gale enjoyed carpentry, helping out his neighbors and loved playing drums in the “Country Squires” band at weddings and then nursing homes. His band also played a song in Nashville, and an album in Lincoln. A National Guard veteran, he served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of the American Legion Bolton Post #19 in York, a volunteer firefighter for the Bradshaw Fire Department, a member of the Masons, he enjoyed raising flowers, and loved showing quarter horses.

    He is survived by his wife Gloria of York, son Michael (Karen) Tonniges of York, and daughter Patty (Gary) Pagel of Decatur, ILL. His grandchildren include: Ashley Ellen Carey of Bellevue, NE, Sean (Heather) Tonniges of West Monroe, LA, Haley Pagel of Bloomington, ILL, Taylor Pagel and Kolby Pagel both of Decatur, ILL and his great grandchildren include: Paxton, Ethany, Joshua, Belle and Noah. Also surviving are brothers Ron Tonniges of York, Dennis (Holly) Tonniges of Coral Springs, FL and Randy Tonniges of Kearney, NE,  his sisters: Wilma (Don) Miller of Lincoln, NE, Shirley (Vern) Wolstenholm of Prior Lake, MN,  sister-in-law Chris Tonniges of York, brothers-in-law: Elden Stone Jr and William “Bill” Stone, both of York; special friends Kevin Yeager of York and Kelly Yeager of Fairmont, NE, and of course his two Toy Poodles: Rusty and Amy.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gene Tonniges, sister Sharon Greiss, sisters-in-law Nancy Stone, Lola Tonniges, and Janet Tonniges, nephew Rodney, grandsons Joshua Michael Tonniges and Derek David Pagel.

    ​Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in York. Burial will be in York’s Greenwood Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be from 1-8:00 p.m., Friday with his family greeting friends later that night from 6-8:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Memorials may be sent to the family for later designation.
