He was born July 16, 1959 in Henderson to Darold D. and Rosella (Regier) Friesen. Galen had worked for the Nebraska Department of Corrections at the Nebraska Center for Women for 11 years. He attended the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island. Galen loved to cook, was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed activities with his family.
Survivors include three sons, Casey (Jenni) Friesen of Waverly, Dustan (Katelin) Friesen of Lincoln and Brady Friesen of Aurora; four grandchildren, Braxton, Layton, Sydalee and Emerson. Galen is also survived by his mother, Rosella (Don) Harvey of Grand Island; brother, Billy (Beth) Friesen of Lincoln; two sisters, Diana (Tom) Johnson of Henderson and Lori (Bruce) Ediger of Aurora; and sister-in-law, Dee Friesen of Lincoln.
Galen was preceded in death by his father and brother, Gary.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 at the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island. There will be a private family interment. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday at Metz Mortuary in Henderson. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
