    Helen M. (Nelson) Lulow age 86 died Friday, February 12, 2021 at York, NE
    Born on September 26, 1934 to Gothard “Ole” and Martha (Lundgren) Nelson in York.
    Helen also known as “Swede” by some, was a longtime waitress in York at many of the town’s restaurants and clubs. Then she a co-owner of The Recipe Box Restaurant, where she was an excellent homemade baker also. She then went on to work in Activities at The Hearthstone where she lightened the days for so many with her smile, laugh, storytelling, dancing and hugs. She was active in the Blue Valley Community Action for years, serving on the CAB board and volunteering at the food bank and clothing store and was very active in York County Election Board.  Helen never knew a stranger, she was a friend to all. Her ability to make you feel special and loved was enormous. HUGS were always given out to everyone.
    June 9, 1955, she married Donald Lulow, they had 63 years together before he preceded her in death. Also preceded in death by parents, 5 brothers, 6 sisters and 1 half-brother, son-in-law Michael Meyer, and granddaughter Erica Lulow.
    Left to cherish her memory are children: Karen Meyer of Grand Island, NE, Keith (Sue) Lulow of Grand Island, NE, Kim (Jim) Hoffman of York, NE. Grandchildren: Josh (Liesal) Hoffman and Jeremy Hoffman of York, NE Leslie (Kyle)Neeman of Phillips, NE. 6 Greatgrandchildren Kayla, Leah and Kyler Neeman and Morgan, Molly and Memphis Hoffman who she loved to hear call her “GG.” Step grandchildren: Andrew Behrle of Wood River, NE, Katie(Mario) Chavarria and Sarah(James) Johnson of Grand Island, NE, 5 step greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and many family and friends.
    Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in York. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the mortuary. Helen will be cremated following services. COVID 19 Funeral Guidelines will be implemented with masks required. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to her family for later designation. Helen’s service will be broadcasted live on Metz Mortuary’s Facebook page.
