    Helen R. Bettger age 82 of York, NE died Friday, August 12, 2005 at York. She was born November 25, 1922 at York to Charles W. and Maude B. (Popejoy) Anderson and graduated from York High School in 1940. She attended York College for one year and was a secretary for the York Public Schools for over 30 years. Helen was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in York, the United Methodist Women, she played the viola in the Methodist String Trio and directed the Sunday School Choir. Helen also belonged to the Retired Teachers Association, the National Secretaries Association along with the State Association as well. She was also a member of the Friendship Club and the Eastern Star Grace Chapter. She loved teaching violin lessons too. On February 1, 1942 she was married to John Bettger Jr. at York.

    She is survived by her husband John of York, two daughters, Judy and her husband Roger Maneely of York and Janet Kendrick of Fort Worth, TX. Three grandchildren, Jonathan and his wife Cheryl Boyer of York, Tom and his wife Jessica Boyer-Kendrick of Vancouver, WA and David Maneely of York. Seven Great Grandchildren, Alexis Maneely of York, Josh Gardner, Ben Gardner, Lauren Boyer and Ryan Boyer all of York. Max Boyer-Kendrick and Mason Boyer-Kendrick both of Vancouver, WA. Also surviving is a sister Opal and her husband John Breckenridge of York.

    She was preceded in death by her parents a brother Earl Anderson, two sisters, Marguerite McConnell and Donna Moravec.
    Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in York with memorials in lieu of flowers being directed to the church. Visitation begins after 1:00 p.m., Sunday at the mortuary.
