James “Jim” M. Hogan

    James “Jim” M. Hogan, age 81, of York, NE, died Wednesday, May 15, 2024 in York. James was born on November 1, 1942 to Floyd J. and Eva Marie (Stevens) Hogan in Sioux City, IA. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in York in 1960. On August 10, 1962 he was united in marriage to Betty L. Bedient in York.

    Jim was the General Manager/Buyer for Big Blue Store from 1972-2007 in Seymour, IN and Kinston, NC. He was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in York and the York Elk’s Club. Jim started as a volunteer firefighter for the York Fire Dept, and then it became his fulltime employment. He helped start Future Firefighters of York. He was also an electrician and a bartender. Jim loved to play cards, hunt, fish, and to watch Husker football.

    He is survived by his wife Betty Hogan of York, sons Steve (Shelley Thompson) Hogan of Stockham, NE, and Scott Hogan of Norman IN, daughter Stacy (Dan) Clark of York, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, brothers Philip (Nicolas Izumi) Hogan and Butch Hogan, both of Hastings, NE, sisters-in-law Diane Bedient of Grand Rapids, MN, and Carol Moline, of Nebraska City, NE, many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson LCpl Hunter “HD” Hogan, mother-in-law, several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and two nieces.

    Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in York, with the Reverend Fathers, Tony Bedient, John Sullivan and Janusz Marzynski officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in York. Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m., on Thursday, with the family greeting friends from 6-7:30 p.m., that evening all at Metz Mortuary in York. Memorials may be directed to HD Hogan Foundation, St. Joseph School, or Tunnels to Towers.
