Rowena “Janice” Jost

Rowena “Janice” Jost age 92 of Henderson, NE passed away Friday, January 23, 2026 in Henderson. She was born on February 25, 1933, in Henderson to George and Sarah (Goertzen) Kornelson. She grew up with her parents and three sisters on a farm just a couple of miles outside of Henderson. When she was a sophomore in high school, she moved with her family to Hillsboro Kansas. Janice attended Tabor College for two years; on May 1, 1953, she married LeRoy Jost in Hillsboro. She taught elementary school near Hillsboro, until they started a family.

In 1956, LeRoy and Janice moved to Henderson to farm. They both joined the Henderson Mennonite Brethren/Living Hope Church. Church members still remember her “chalk talks,” which consist of drawing a bible scene with colored chalk while narrating it. She also loved to sing; she sang in the church choir, often singing solo parts, and was proud to be a founding member of Singsperation Singers, which presented programs at care centers. Hosting friends and family for meals was also a joy of hers but most of all, she cherished her three sons and all of their activities.

She is survived by her sons; Steve (Sherry) Jost of Glenview, IL, Garry (Gloria) Jost of Gig Harbor, WA and Mark (Jane) Jost of Henderson, seven grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters Linda Wiebe, Berdena Vogt and Ferne Hiebert.

Graveside services will be held at 9:45 am Thursday, January 29, 2026 at the Living Hope Cemetery northwest of Henderson. Memorial services to follow at 10:30 am at the Living Hope Church with the Reverend Luke Haidle officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-9:00 pm Wednesday at the Henderson Metz Mortuary and later her family will greet friends from 6-8:00pm that same evening. Memorials may be directed to Living Hope Church or to Tabor College.
