Joan M. Alexander – Metz Mortuary

    Joan Margaret Alexander 
    Joan M. Alexander, age 95, of Salt Lake City, Utah, died Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Salt Lake City. She was born September 30, 1914 in New York City, NY to Arthur and Elizabeth (Gilman) Newbery. Joan graduated from high school in Rochester, NY in 1933 and attended the University of Rochester and Columbia University. Joan and David Alexander were united in marriage on February 17, 1940 at Erie, PA. She taught music her entire life until her retirement in 2003. She was baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church and always belonged to a church wherever they lived. She was a member of mission circle and the National Guild of Piano Teachers. Joan will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

    Left to cherish her memory are two sisters, Gwendolyn Linker of Salt Lake City, UT and Dorothy Hughes of Fairport, NY; two nephews and one niece. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, brothers-in-law Alfred Linker and Dick Hughes.

    Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Bethesda Cemetery, Henderson, NE. Memorial services will follow at 10:30 a.m., 2009 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson, NE with the Reverend Weldon Martens officiating. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m., Monday evening at Metz Mortuary, Henderson, NE. Memorials may be directed to the Bethesda Mennonite Church.
