Joseph Ira Monroe
Joseph Ira Monroe, age 69, of York, NE died Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Grand Island, NE. He was born March 28, 1949 in Boston, MA to William A. and Carolyn (Cianchette) Monroe. As a child of an Air Force family he lived in many different places growing up including Okinawa, Japan. His family moved to Imperial, NE where he was a 1967 graduate of Chase County High School. After school, he was self-employed working various jobs. He was then married to Marilyn Hulsebus on December 4, 1970 in Imperial. Later he became director of the Lancaster County Weed Control for many years. He was also an accomplished artist working with comic strips, book illustrations, portraits and paintings. He and his wife had one daughter, Katherine Marie who cared for him at home for some time.
He is survived by his daughter Kate, his sister Shari and her husband Richard Raffaeli, Susan Ward of Bradshaw. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Private family inurnment will be held at a later time. Joseph has been cremated so there will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be directed to his family for later designation.
