    Kenneth W. Gloystein, age 88, of York, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at York.

    He was born June 15, 1925 at rural Waco to Fred and Hanna (Naber) Gloystein. He was baptized July 15, 1925 at St. John Lutheran Church south of Waco and confirmed on April 2, 1939 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica. He graduated from Utica High School in 1942 and Grand Island School of Business in 1943.

    Kenneth and Edith E. Wurst were united in marriage on Nov. 30, 1947 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica. Two sons, Jerry and Larry, were born to the union. Kenneth farmed and raised dairy cattle in Seward and York Counties from 1948-1988.
    Kenneth was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York where he served on various boards, was involved in the Sunday school, and belonged to Lutheran Laymen’s League. He was also very interested in the Orphan Grain Train Mission. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed baseball and Husker football. Kenneth and Edith loved to travel and enjoyed visiting new places.

    Kenneth had served on the Farmer’s Co-op Board, the Waco Rural Fire District, the York Co. Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service and was a Director of German Farmer’s Mutual Insurance Co.

    Left to cherish his memory are his wife Edith of York; sons, Jerry (Joyce) Gloystein of Kearney and Larry (Diane) Gloystein of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Amber (Jake) Messersmith and their son Drew of Kearney, Aimee (Lucas) Berndt and daughter Mallory of Kearney, Tom (Lisa) Luebbe of Lincoln, Dawn Luebbe and fiancé Jeff Roberts of New York City, N.Y. and Ginger Gloystein and husband Casey Muratori of Seattle, Wash.

    Also surviving are two brothers: Floyd (Virginia) Gloystein of York and Harold (Geri) Gloystein of Arvada, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Elaine Gloystein of Palo Alto, Calif. and Carol Stauffer of Milford; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Howard and Marvene Wurst of Milford; cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Elroy.

    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Mike Neidow officiating. Interment will be in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5- 9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday at Metz Mortuary. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 – 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers and food, memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Lutheran Hour Ministries, Orphan Grain Train, or the donor’s choice.
