Leo Stuhr – Metz Mortuary

    Leo Henry Stuhr, age 97 of York, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016 at York.

    He was born Sept. 19, 1918 in York County to Carl and Bertha (Staehr) Stuhr. He was united in marriage to Bernice Pieper on Sept. 22, 1940 in Waco. Leo farmed south of Waco and was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church south of Waco. He enjoyed cars, camping and was an avid reader. He also had a large collection of open flywheel stationary engines.  

    Left to cherish his memory are three sons, Lonnie (Carolyn) Stuhr of Sioux City, Iowa, Garry (Evelyn) Stuhr of Houston, Texas and Lynn (Ruth) Stuhr of Milwaukee, Wis.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.  Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Bernice and a sister, Luella Apetz.

    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church south of Waco with the Reverend Matthew Mau officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. on Sunday at the mortuary with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. that evening. Memorials may be directed to the Orphan Grain Train or the Lutheran Hour.​
