Leona Epp – Metz Mortuary

    Leona Epp
    Leona Epp, daughter of Peter D and Katharina Friesen was born March 24, 1924 in York County near Henderson, NE. She went to be with the Lord on July 13, 2021 and reached the age of 97 years old at Legacy Square.

    ​Leona was baptized upon her confession of faith by the Reverend AW Friesen on May 24, 1942 and received as a member of Bethesda Mennonite Church Henderson, NE. Leona attended eight years of grade school in District 73 East. Then attended one year of high school at Henderson District 95.

    Leona married Alvin G. Epp on August 21, 1941 in Bellville, KS. They were married 49 years. During these years five children were born to Alvin and Leona, Carol, Glenda, Wanda, Lauren and Curtis.

    Leona was a lifetime homemaker. She helped Alvin with harvest and chores. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidery.
    During mom’s last days, she spoke of being with her heavenly Father. As a family we will miss her, but knowing she is with the Lord gives us comfort.

    She leaves to mourn her children, Carol & Gary Hiebner, Curt & Maxine Epp, Lauren & Barb Epp, son-in-law Audrun & Janlee Siebert. 13 grandchildren, Cal & Melissa Hiebner, Lori & Tim Barr, Steve & Christi Hiebner, Judi & Jerry Kroeker, Kristi Thieszen, Sara & Gilbert Collins, Micah & Angie Thieszen, Rachel & Charlie Pohl, Mark & Lisa Siebert, Traci Chambers, Collin & Andrea Siebert, Jordan Epp, BriAnna & Trent Siebert. 29 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. Brother-in-law Harold & Marie Epp.

    Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, 2 daughters, one son-in-law Erland Thieszen, 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

    Her family would like to thank you for their acts of kindness shown to Leona while at the Legacy Square during this time of bereavement. Her family invites you to the dinner following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be directed to the Bethesda Mennonite Parking Lot fund, Chiller and renovations.

    Graveside services will be held at 9:15 am, Friday, July 16, 2021 at the Bethesda Mennonite Cemetery north of Henderson with the Reverends Seth Miller and Chelsea Vaught officiating. A memorial service will then follow at the Bethesda Mennonite Church at 10:00 am. Visitation will be from 1-9:00 pm Thursday at the mortuary in Henderson with her family greeting friends and neighbors there from 6-8:00 pm.
