    Leslie “Les” W. Gray, 94, of Waco, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014 at York.

    He was born Feb. 4, 1919 at rural Waco to Grover and Louise (Pickrel) Gray. He grew up in the Waco vicinity, attended rural school #58, and graduated from Waco High School.

    He was employed by the Burlington Railroad until entering the U.S. Air Corps where he served from 1940-1945 during World War II.

    Les was united in marriage to Pauline Bredehoft on Nov. 18, 1945 at Waco. Les was employed as an electrician with various companies in Humboldt, Lincoln and Seward, and eventually owned and operated Les Gray Construction. He also farmed in the Waco area until his retirement.

    He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed morning coffee with friends at the Waco Truck stop.

    Les is survived by his sister-in-law, Gertrude Bredehoft of York; nieces, Deb Huffman of York, Kathy (Richard) Hankel of York, Karen (Mike) Stahr of Marble Falls, Texas, Susan Pedersen of Florida, Bev Fletcher of Linden, Mich., Billie Marcum of Michigan, and Janet Swapp of Linden, Mich.; nephews, Douglas Gray of Florida, Richard Gray of Virginia Beach, Va., Peter Gray of New Jersey, James Gray of Charlotte, N.C. and Marvin Moseley of The Villages, Fla. Also surviving are special friends, Jennifer and Tim Arndt of York and Keith and Kristine Richert of Gresham.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Vernon; and sister, Lucille.

    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 at Peace Lutheran Church in Waco. Burial will be in the Waco Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at the mortuary. The family will greet friends Sunday evening from 7-8 p.m.  

    Memorials may be directed to the donor’s favorite charity.
