Lorna Von Kampen – Metz Mortuary

    Lorna N. Von Kampen, 95, formerly of Utica, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016.

    She was born on August 30, 1921 in York to August and Martha (Rakestraw) Leybold. She attended York Public School in Kindergarten through 4th grade. Lorna resided in Ogallala for two years and then moved back to York County where she finished her 8th grade education.  For seven years she did housework for several families in the York area.  

    Lorna married Melvin D. Von Kampen on May 23, 1943 in Staplehurst. He passed away in January of 1979. She continued doing housework for families and was also employed at the Utica Community Care Center, The Flying V and the Chances R. She lived in York and Texas before making her home at the Utica Community Care Center in 2008.

    Survivors include two sons, Glenn (Barb) Von Kampen of Lincoln and Lyle (Linda Thomson) Von Kampen of Grand Island; two daughters, Eileen Urbanek of Lewisville, Texas and Elaine Dittmar of Utica; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother and sister-in-law; one nephew and two nieces.

    Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica.  Interment will be in the Utica Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 – 8 p.m. on Sunday and from 9 a.m. -8 p.m. on Monday at the mortuary with the family greeting friends from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Monday evening. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.  ​
