Margery Norquest – Metz Mortuary

     Margery Ray Norquest, age 87, of York, NE, died peacefully on Thursday, July 8, 2021, in her home town of York, Nebraska.

    Margery was born May 26, 1934 in Hastings, NE to Ivan and Evelyn (Kitts) Greuter and graduated from York High School in 1951. After high school, Margery worked for Western Electric in Lincoln, NE. On April 26, 1953, Margery married Delbert Norquest in McCool Jct, NE in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She and her husband owned and operated Del’s Frontier in York for several years, after which they successfully transitioned to farming in York County for many decades, retiring in 2005. Margery was involved as a homemaker, a leader in 4-H, a Sunday school teacher, and served on the Church Council. She also served on the Farm Home Board for several years.  Additionally, she was employed with York Public Schools as a Special Education Paraprofessional, and also followed a passion as a florist at the Flower Box.  Margery especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her Greuter family.

    Margery is survived by her, son Kent and his wife JoAnn Norquest of York, and daughter Dr. Jana Norquest Liegner and her husband Dr. Jeffrey Liegner of Boise, ID. Five grandchildren; Michele Brunsman (Daniel) Oklahoma City, OK, Sarah Arens (Tyler) Kansas City MO, Kitts Liegner (Chris) Seattle, WA, Adam Liegner (Brittany) Boise, ID and Jameson Liegner (Jeannette) Arlington VA.  She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Cooper and Emerson Liegner, Boise, ID.  Margery is also survived by her sisters and brothers Nancy Gangwish (Clark), Sharon Koch, Merilee Gangwish (Alvin), Penny (Kenneth) Dunkel, Tim (Linda) Grueter and Steven Grueter, and brother in-law, Burton Norquest of York.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    Margery was preceded in death by her husband Delbert, her parents and her sisters Trudy Johnson (Milton), Terry Timmons, and Donell Hoey and her brother Jack Greuter.

    Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 19, 2021 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in McCool Junction, with the Vicar Tim Stacy officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation as it was Margery’s wish to be cremated. No graveside services are scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the family to be directed to “Friends of the Kilgore Memorial Library”.
