Marjorie M. Ehlers – Metz Mortuary

    Marjorie M. Ehlers
Marjorie M. Ehlers was born Oct. 11, 1919, in York County to George and Lillie (Skoglund) Shaw.

She passed away on April 23, 2014. She attended country schools and was a 1937 graduate of Benedict High School. She married J. Fred Ehlers on Sept. 14, 1941.  She and Fred lived on the West Coast until 1942 when they returned to the Ehlers Family farm east of Benedict where they lived and farmed until Fred’s death in 1977.

Marj moved to York in 1979 where she worked at J. M. McDonald’s Department store and Pieper’s True Value Hardware until her retirement. Marjorie may have retired from work, but she did not retire from using her good listening skills.

People seemed comfortable sharing their challenges and burdens with her because of her sincere interest in them. She helped many by her quiet demeanor and positive encouragement. She was always more concerned about others than herself and showed it by her actions and the way she lived her life. She was an inspiration to her family whom she loved.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Benedict where she served in many capacities during her life.

She is survived by son, Larry (Barbara) Ehlers of Benedict; daughter, Sandra (Ralph) Brumbaugh of York; grandchildren, Chad (Tena) Ehlers and Scott (Kim) Ehlers of Waco, Drew (Dorraine) Brumbaugh of St. Charles, Iowa and Jay Dee (Angie) Brumbaugh of Goodland, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Ehlers, Sam Ehlers, Garralei Martell, James Brumbaugh, Julianna Brumbaugh, William Brumbaugh, Brennan Brumbaugh and Brady Brumbaugh. She is also survived by one brother, Bud (Lila) Shaw of Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J. F. (Fred) Ehlers and brother Wendell Shaw.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Metz Mortuary chapel with Pastor Rebecca Sheridan officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Benedict. Visitation will be from 1 – 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the mortuary. The family will greet friends Sunday evening from 6:30 – 8 p.m.  Memorials may be directed to York Relay for Life or the family for later designation.
