    Marlene Gardner, age 82, of York, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017 at York.
    She was born June 18, 1935 to Adolph and Martha (Staehr) Peeks in York and was baptized on July 14, 1935. Marlene was then confirmed on April 10, 1949 at St. John Lutheran Church at Waco. She graduated from York High School in 1953 and was later united in marriage to William C. “Bill” Gardner on June 30, 1957 at St. John Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with four children.
    Marlene was employed for over 30 years with the Federal Land Bank/Farm Credit Services in York. She was also employed for 11 years at Greenwood Cemetery as a secretary. Marlene enjoyed watching Husker Volleyball and a Sunday afternoon watching PGA golf. Most of all Marlene loved her travels to visit children and grandchildren.
    Marlene is survived by her daughter, Lori Gardner of Osceola; sons, Tim (Jean) Gardner and Todd Gardner all of York and Kent (Janet) Gardner of Fayetteville, Ark. Her grandchildren include, Amy (Judson) Robertson, Lyndi (Brian) Peterson, Melanie Charlton, Kylee (Andrew) Saathoff, Bret Gardner and special friend Kirsti Rehler, Max, Zachary and Samantha Gardner. Great-grandchildren, Landyn, Sayla, Ava Belle Peterson, Juliana Robertson and John Saathoff. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley (Cyril) Rhodes and her brother-in-law, Roy Otte as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
    Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; sisters, Evelyn Swearingen, Elvera Huston, Lorraine Naber and brothers, Raymond and Norman Peeks.
    Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverends’ Mike Neidow and Ben Kaiser officiating. Private family inurnment will take place in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. It was Marlene’s wish to be cremated so there will be no viewing or visitation. The family will meet with friends and family at the luncheon immediately following the church service. Memorials in lieu of flowers or plants may be made to Greenwood Cemetery Improvement Fund in York.
