She was born Aug. 14, 1936 in York County to George and Regina (Jokerst) Heser. Mary Jo was a longtime York area bookkeeper and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York. On Aug. 18, 1962 she was married to Lawrence A. McGowan at York. Mary Jo was an avid card player and enjoyed wintering in Texas for many years. Her pride and joy was attending her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence of McCool Jct.; son, Steve (Becky) McGowan of York; her daughters, Cheryl (Jeff) Harlow and Bonnie (Wayne) Richardson, both of York.
Her grandchildren include: Derek (Dayle) Harlow of Geneva, Marcus Harlow and fiancé Makayla Urban of Lincoln, Jennifer Harlow of York, Elizabeth Harlow of Omaha, Colby Hobbs of Lincoln, Kelsey (Matt) Danhauer of Marquette, Kirby Hobbs of Lincoln, Gabe Hobbs and Dana Hobbs of York, Dylan McGowan and fiancé Courtney Naber of York and Cody (Kylie) McGowan of York. Her great-grandchildren include: Colton McGowan of York, Taylor Harlow and Beau Harlow both of Geneva and Marley Danhuaer of Marquette. Also surviving is a brother, Thomas (Sandy) Heser of Omaha; brothers-in-law, Ed Tienert of York and James McGowan of McCool Jct. and sister-in-law, Barbara (Gaylord) Songster of York.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John Heser and Richard and his wife Rosemary Heser.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 13, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in York with Monsignor James Reinert officiating. Cremation. No viewing. Inurnment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery following services. A Rosary service will be held at 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017 at Metz Chapel. Mary Jo’s family will greet friends following the Rosary service. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
