He was born April 12, 1955 to Jack D. and Lola M. (Cox) Shepherd in Denver, Colo.
Max had served his country as a member of the United States Army during Vietnam from January of 1973 to October of 1975.
He was united in marriage to Jennifer Chapin on Nov. 4, 1981.
Max had been a self-employed mechanic. He loved his family and his dogs with all of his heart. He was an ardent supporter of York Adopt-A-Pet. He enjoyed westerns and hunting.
Max is survived by his ex-wife, Jennifer Shepherd and her husband Monroe Sawatzky of Henderson; son, David Shepherd of York; daughter, Amanda Grooms and special friend Ty Jochum of Omaha; brother, Ross Shepherd of Tecumseh; three sisters, Vicki Brownell of Colorado, Penny Debus of York, and Ellen (Geoff) Dahlgren of Colorado; sister-in-law, Deb Shepherd of Hampton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Scott; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Metz Chapel in York. Burial will follow at Vernon Cemetery, York.
