Megan Dawn Kelly – Metz Mortuary

Megan Dawn Kelly, age 33 of Hastings, NE, in the comforting arms of her family and friends, ended her battle with cancer Friday, December 13, 2013 at York, NE. She was born July 1, 1980 in York, NE to Terry and Diane (Swartz) Kelly. Megan graduated from York High School in 1998. Megan received her Bachelors in Education from University of Nebraska (Lincoln) and then went on to obtain her Masters degree in Middle School Math from the University of Nebraska (Lincoln) in 2007. She then became an elementary school teacher at Adams Central Public schools. In July of 2012, Megan was blessed by the birth of her little miracle man, Liam Robert Kelly. Megan was a member of First St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings.

Megan loved everyone she met and loved to teach others what she learned along the way. Her students were like family to her and she was a beloved teacher to many. When Megan was not teaching, she spent her time with family and friends. Megan loved life and her smile and positive attitude were infectious.

Megan battled Stage IV Triple Negative Breast Cancer with courage and strength.

Survivors include her son, Liam of Hastings; Parents Terry Kelly and Diane (Dan Hager) Kelly of York; Brother, Jason (Amanda) Kelly of Lincoln, NE; Sister, Mandy (Jeff) Toms of Windsor, CO. Nephews and nieces, Kai (Jason), Sutton, Pearson, Peter, Cyrus, Hadley and Sophia (Mandy);  Soul mate, Adam Apetz and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Megan was preceded in death by her grandparents Lester and Elsie Swartz and Ed and Mildred Kelly; and her uncle, Rick Swartz.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the York City Auditorium in York.  Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, York.  Visitation will be held at the mortuary from 5-9 pm on Monday and 9am-9pm on Tuesday, with family greeting friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday evening.  Memorials may be directed to the Megan Kelly Benefit Acct, PO Box 39 York, NE 68467 or York State Bank for her 17 month old son Liam.
