Melvin (Skip) Duane Plock passed peacefully at home before the 4th quarter of the Nebraska football game with his family close by on December 31st, 2025. Skip was the kindest, most generous man with a sole mission of sharing Jesus with everyone God led him to. Skip offered grace, mercy, and unconditional love to friends, customers, inmates, and those searching.
Skip was born on August 5th, 1948, in York, NE, to Leslie and Blondie (Overmiller) Plock. He was the oldest of 3. What fun they had on the family farm, playing with the animals, farming, and showing his Tennessee Walker Trigger. Skip was involved in football, Basketball, Track, Band, Choir, Drama, 4-H, Church & Youth Group. Skip graduated from McCool Jct. High School in 1966, where he then attended and graduated from Southeast Community College in Milford, NE, in Construction and Architecture. Skip designed the Milford Bank and Mumby’s Restaurant in Fairmont, among many homes, including his own, which he built.
On November 20th, he asked Mary Houston out on a blind date. In February, he proposed, and on July 12th, 1969, their hearts became one. Penny and Russ made their family complete. Skip worked various construction jobs, was an architect, and helped build a few of the houses he designed for the Lumberyard, & made cabinets for Champion. Later, he started Skip Plock Painting. He and the family painted homes and farms in the surrounding counties, and he worked for a short time in Lincoln. Skip and the family showed Paint and Pinto horses. He was a 4-H leader and, Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. He farmed with his dad and brother and collected antique guns. Skip served on the McCool Fire Board, which allowed him to drive home the new Ambulance from Minnesota, only one condition…. He could not turn on the siren.
Skip loved his old cars, Model Ts & As, 34 Dodge, 1980 John Deere Dodge pickup, and his 62 T-bird that he and Mary spent decades attending car shows. However, his passion was spending years doing Bible studies for those in jail, then Mary joined him, ministering to those in the state prison and correctional facilities, with over 2000 leather Bibles given. Through Skip’s leading efforts, the Living Waters Rescue Mission was established, now named H.O.P.E.
Skip was the man who slipped money to people in need… always chose the high road and erred on the side of kindness… and his legacy will continue to touch people with the love of Jesus.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Les and Blondie Plock, and in-laws, Dave and Pauline Houston; sister, Cindy (Plock) Uselman.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary; children Penny & John Schulz of York, NE, Russ and Mary Plock of McCool Junction, NE; grandchildren Madison (Damon) Kaliff, Elyse (Michael) Carter, Aly (Joaquin) Gutierrez, Bryson Plock, Chantelle Schulz, Ashley Schulz, & Brooke Schulz.
