Nancy Caroline Focht Walford, age 88 of York, NE died Thursday, December 21, 2023 in Lincoln, NE. She was born August 23, 1935 on the family farm near Villisca, Iowa to Lawrence and Opal (Day) Focht. Nancy rode the family pony to country school and graduated from Villisca High School in 1952. On July 22, 1956 she married William Walford in Villisca. To this union Jeanne Marie and William TR were born.
Nancy was an excellent seamstress making dresses for her mother, shirts for Bill as well as clothing for herself and several outfits a year for Jeanne. She was employed at Cornerstone Bank for almost 30 years. Nancy was past treasurer for the York Legion Auxiliary and a president of York BPO DOES. She also served as President of Meals on Wheels for over 25 years. Nancy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in York for over 50 years serving as Deacon and on the Session Board. She enjoyed traveling, visiting over 60 countries. She snorkeled on the Great Barrier Reef and traveled many times to Canada, Mexico, and all 50 states, with Alaska and Hawaii being repeat favorites.
Nancy and Bill were escorts for the York Senior Fun Club in their retirement. Her husband William passed away in 2009 after which Nancy and Dale Olson combined their families on December 24, 2013.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Jeanne and Brad Johnson of Lincoln, Granddaughter Katelyn Johnson of Ft. Collins, Colorado. Extended family include Gary (Carol) Olson of York, Karen Kayton of Albion, Chris Kayton, Nick (Claire) and Reese Kayton, Kallie and Ryan Dugdale, Drew (Karin) Olive and Dalton Olson, Riley Olson and Maddie Wilson, and Holly Olson. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, son William, brothers and sisters-in-law Thomas and Janice Focht, William and Marie Focht, Richard and Sandra Focht, Evelyn and Don Jones, Dale Olson and grandson Michael Johnson.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 am Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church in York with the Reverend Ron Wakeman officiating. Private family inurnment will be held prior to services in Greenwood Cemetery. No viewing or visitation as it was Nancy’s wish to be cremated. Memorials may be directed to Meals on Wheels or to the First Presbyterian Church.
