Nora Thompson – Metz Mortuary

    Nora M. Thompson, age 85 of York, passed away Monday, Nov. 23, 2015 at her home in York.

    She was born May 21, 1930 in York to Roy and Stella (Richardson) Nickels. She graduated from Bradshaw High School in 1947 and was united in marriage to Richard O. Thompson on Sept. 16, 1952 at York. Nora had worked at the egg plant in York, the greeting card department of the Pamida Store, and provided daycare in her home as well.

    She collected dolls, chickens and was a huge John Wayne fan. She was also a foster grandparent. Nora was devoted to her family and was extremely proud of them and all their accomplishments.

    Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Dolly Wilson, Wanda (Phil) Gish and Anna (Cyril) Serreyn; five grandchildren, Jennifer Geiser, Jarrod Geiser, Justin Geiser, Jesse (Jen) Thompson, and Jasmine Thompson (Alex Zakrzewski); five great-grandchildren, Taylor Geiser ( Ken McAtee), Lila Geiser, Zander Geiser, Tinley Geiser and Brighton Thompson; and one great-great-grandson Brayden Geiser-McAtee.  

    Also surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Connie Nickels of York; sister-in-law, Annette Nickels of Columbus; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Kathy Rathjen of York; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Vi Thompson of York, Joe and Lenore Thompson of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Margeret and Dean Patterson of Ralston and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

    Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; son-in-law, Les Wilson; brothers, Dale Nickels and LeRoy Nickels; sister, Cookie Rathjen and sister-in-law, Pat Nickels.

    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 27, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Interment will be in the Plainfield Cemetery west of Bradshaw. There will be no viewing or visitation. The family has requested that casual attire be worn to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. ​
