Patricia Joan (Jody) Blum, age 91 of York, NE died on Monday, November 27, 2023 in York. She was born August 6, 1932 to Joseph Roy and Odessa (Fuston) Summers in Cameron, MO. Her father, a veteran of WWI, passed away when she was four years old. She lived with her grandmother or aunt until her mother moved to Little Rock, AR at the beginning of WWII to work in an Ord plant, then they joined her. Joan went to three different schools in Little Rock.
In 1945 her mother remarried and they moved to a farm near McCool Junction, NE. She graduated from McCool Junction in 1950. She taught school for 1 year and from there traveled from one coast to the other. She settled in Kansas City, MO in 1961. She came home in September 1965 to visit her parents, and met Roger Blum, and they married in November 1965.
She was the first woman elected to the York City Council, and served 8 ½ years. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, and a 50 plus years member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed working the blood bank and Poppy Day, bowling and hunting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, mother and beloved step-father.
She is survived by her niece Carol Petersen of Arlington, VA, and cousin Sauna Beth Reif of Overland Park, KS. Also surviving are the Kopcho families and her godson Jacob Kopcho of York.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Metz Chapel in York. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, York. The service will be livestreamed on Metz Mortuary’s YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCl1ffBwglpCqu7nKkx42SzQ
Visitation will be held from 1-8 pm on Friday, December 1st at Metz Mortuary. Memorials may be directed to York Emmanuel Lutheran Church or Greenwood Cemetery.
