    Richard “Dick” Boyle
    Richard “Dick” Boyle, age 87, of York, NE, died Sunday, November 7, 2021 in York.  He was born November 8, 1933 in O’Neill, NE to Edward and Mary (Barrett) Boyle. He attended elementary rural school District 174, and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in O’Neill in 1951.

    Richard served in the Air Force from 1953-1957 and was stationed in Japan for eighteen months.  He graduated from Milford Radio Tech in 1959 and worked for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for two years.

    He married Charlene Mahony on November 18, 1961 and they moved to Iowa City, IA in 1962 where he attended the University of Iowa and graduated with degree in electrical engineering.  In 1966 they moved to California and he worked at Naval Weapons Center in Ridgecrest from 1966-1969. They then moved to Norfolk, NE and he began his 26 years of employment with NPPD, moving to York in 1970 and becoming a Regional Engineer until he retired.

    He was a member of St. Joseph Church in York, the Knights of Columbus, and the York American Legion Post #19.  Richard loved to garden, play cards, and entertain his grandchildren.

    He is survived by his wife Charlene, his sons David (Bronwyn) Boyle of Rock Hill, SC, Rich (Catherine) Boyle of Los Altos Hills, CA, Tim (Pam) Boyle of Lincoln, NE, his daughters Kris (Craig) Potthoff of Katy, TX, Betsy (Paul) Austin of Gretna, NE, and sixteen grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Edward (Bette) Boyle of O’Neill, NE, and his sister Margaret Posch of Cheney, KS, multiple nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Pat, Mick, Chuck, Ned, Larry, infant brother Francis, his sisters Mary Agnes, Marie and Mariam, and granddaughter Genevieve Boyle.

    A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in York with the Reverend Father John Sullivan officiating.  Private graveside services will be held at a later date in the Omaha National Cemetery in Springfield, NE. A Rosary will be said Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. at Metz Chapel, with his family greeting friends one hour prior to the rosary. Dick has been cremated so there will be no viewing, however you may sign his guest book on Sunday from 1-8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic School, York.
