    Richard G. Penner age 87, of York, died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Fairview Manor in Fairmont, NE.  Richard was born June 6, 1926 in Beatrice, NE to Anna and Rudolph Penner. He graduated from Beatrice High School and farmed at the home place. On March 9, 1952 he married Mary H. Richert at Hillsboro, KS. He farmed and ran a dairy herd and was an active member of the Beatrice Mennonite Church. He especially enjoyed singing in the men’s choir. In 1972, he and Mary moved their family to York Nebraska where he became an insurance agent for Farm Bureau and later for Ozark National Life.

    Richard was an active member of the Presbyterian Church and served in various ways on the church board. He was a devoted member of the York Lions Club since 1972, serving on many different committees throughout the years.  He and Mary liked to travel and spend time with friends, but their main pleasure in life came from family. He loved his wife and kids but took special joy in being part of his grandchildren’s lives.

    Richard is survived by his four children: daughter Susan and her husband Greg Weber of Bradshaw, NE, his sons Stan Penner and his wife Jamie of Gunter, TX, Scott Penner of Lake Dallas,TX, and daughter Sharri and her husband Mike Coffey of Woodston, KS.

    His grandchildren include: Rick and Sara Robertson of Highlands Ranch,CO, Kai Robertson of Chicago, IL, Rayne Robertson of Phoenix, AZ, Jessica and Sean Burns of Wilmington, MA, Maggie and Joel Troester of York, NE, John and Mackenzie Weber of Scottsdale, AZ, Chelsea Penner of Sherman, TX, Austin Penner of Lubbock, TX, Brandon Coffey of Seward, NE, Breckin and Monica Coffey of San Antonio, TX, Sage Penner of Omaha, NE, Kian and Quinn Coffey of Woodston, KS.  Also surviving are 13 great grandchildren and Richard’s sister Helen and husband Herald of Poway, CA.  Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Mary.

    Memorial services are scheduled for 2 PM, Friday, January 10 at the First Presbyterian Church in York with Rev. Mike Eickhoff officiating.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  It was Richard’s wish to be cremated and private family inurnment will take place at a later time at the first Mennonite Church Cemetery in Beatrice, NE.  Memorials may be directed to Fairview Manor in Fairmont, NE or to the family for later designation.​
