    Richard ‘Dick’ George
    Richard Paul “Dick” George, age 93, of Gresham, passed away on Monday, March 13,2017, in York, after a short illness.

    He was born on Aug. 13, 1923, to John E and Olga (Peterson) George. He attended country school in  northern York County and was a lifetime Gresham area farmer. He loved all farm animals, especially cattle and horses. He was a member and past trustee of Gresham

    Presbyterian Church, served on the Thayer and Gresham School Boards and the Thayer Cemetery District, and was a leader for Gresham Livestock 4-H Club. On Aug. 14, 1949, he was united in marriage to Janis Johnson at the Presbyterian Church in York.

    Survivors include his wife, Janis of Gresham; two sons, Edward George of Lincoln and Gerry (Pam) George of Waco; two daughters, Lanette (Jim) Bathen of David City and Geniece (John) Courtright of Los Alamos, N.M. Nine grandchildren, Craig George of Ceresco, Brenda (Nic) Smith of Elkhorn, Betsy (Layne) Perkins of Hickman, Gabe (Jill) Bathen of York, Kylie (Willie) Hollatz of Creston, Abby (Travis) Kramer of Lincoln, Amanda Courtright of Midland, Texas, Riley (Kate) Courtright of Omaha and Shelby Courtright of Overland Park, Kan. Thirteen great-grandchildren, Bailey and Brady Bathen; Izabel, Vylet and Layla Hollatz; Paisley and Hattie Kramer; Braylon and Brantley Perkins; Kendyl and Mason George; Caysen Courtright and Harper Cox. Two sister-in-laws, Betty George of Doniphan and Gen Johnson of York.

    Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant sister, and four brothers, Arnold, Rolland, Tom and Ray George.

    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Gresham Presbyterian Church with Pastor John Nellessen officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 pm, Friday March 17, 2017, at Rosemond Cemetery near Thayer. Visitation will be held 1 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Metz Mortuary in York, and 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., Thursday March 16, 2017. The family will be greeting friends between the hours 6:30 – 8 p.m., that same evening. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.​
